NQC, BSI Enhance Stakeholders’ Capacity for NNQP Success
…NQC, BSI Train Stakeholders for Nigeria’s Quality Policy
The National Quality Council (NQC), in collaboration with the British Standards Institute (BSI), has organised a Train-the-Trainers workshop to equip stakeholders with the necessary tools for implementing the Nigeria National Quality Policy (NNQP).
The workshop, held under the Standards Partnership Programme (SPP), focused on data gathering to identify gaps in Nigeria’s National Quality Infrastructure (NQI) and develop strategies to address them.
Chairman and Chief Executive of NQC, Osita Aboloma, represented by Chief of Staff Bola Fashina, emphasized that the programme, supported by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) of the British Government, aims to enhance seamless trade between Nigeria and the UK.
“This initiative empowers stakeholders to take ownership of the NNQP, ensuring accurate data collection for its effective implementation,” Aboloma said. He highlighted Nigeria’s pioneering role in Africa’s quality infrastructure development and the opportunities it provides under the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA).
Workshop Lead Facilitator Mike Peet commended the commitment of participants from public and private sectors. He noted that the training is pivotal for strengthening Nigeria’s competitive edge in global markets. “The continent looks up to Nigeria for leadership in implementing the NNQP. Participants are expected to share the knowledge gained to achieve this shared vision,” Peet added.
Participants included representatives from key government agencies such as the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), NAFDAC, and the Federal Ministries of Industry, Trade and Agriculture, alongside private sector bodies like the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and the National Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME).
The workshop marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s journey to enhance its quality standards and boost the global competitiveness of Made-in-Nigeria products.
