Residents and businesses in Lekki are set to experience enhanced electricity supply following the commissioning of a 1×60/75 MVA 132/33KV power transformer by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) at the Lekki Transmission Substation.

The upgrade, completed on December 19, 2024, increases the substation’s capacity from 120MVA to 195MVA, significantly boosting electricity distribution efficiency. This development allows Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) to offtake a higher volume of bulk power, ensuring more reliable electricity with reduced outages and improved voltage stability.

Babajide Lasaki, General Manager of Corporate Communications at EKEDC, expressed optimism about the project’s impact. “We are glad our transmission partners have completed this project, bringing much-needed relief to customers in the Lekki-Ajah axis. We aim to ramp up our offtake to better serve our customers in multiple ways,” he stated.

Funded by the World Bank as part of Nigeria’s ongoing power sector modernization efforts, the transformer installation strengthens the nation’s power infrastructure and supports economic growth. The collaboration between TCN and EKEDC underscores a shared commitment to meeting Lagos’s increasing electricity demands.

EKEDC, renowned for its leadership in technology and customer service, continues to rank highly on performance indicators monitored by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), further solidifying its role in driving excellence in electricity distribution.
