…Max Air Emergency: Deputy Governor, Over 100 Passengers Escape Tragedy

Borno State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur, and over 100 passengers narrowly avoided disaster on Wednesday evening when a Max Air aircraft experienced an engine fire shortly after taking off from Maiduguri International Airport.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on a flight bound for Abuja. Approximately 10 minutes into the journey, a bird strike caused one of the aircraft’s engines to catch fire, forcing the pilot to execute an emergency landing back at the Maiduguri airport.

A Max Air staff member, who requested anonymity, confirmed the details, saying:
“Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft struck a bird mid-air, leading to an engine fire. The pilot’s swift response ensured the safety of all on board.”

Panic and Recovery

The emergency landing left passengers in a state of panic. Many chose to retrieve their belongings and return home instead of continuing with another flight.

However, Max Air promptly dispatched a replacement aircraft from Kano to transport the remaining passengers, including the Deputy Governor, safely to Abuja.

Investigation Underway

The grounded aircraft remains at Maiduguri International Airport, where it is undergoing repairs. Airport authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and assured passengers of their commitment to safety.

In a statement, airport officials commended the crew for their professionalism and swift actions, which averted a potential catastrophe.
