Fire Engulfs Radio Nigeria Ikoyi, No Casualties Reported
A fire outbreak at the Radio Nigeria building in Ikoyi, Lagos, late Wednesday evening caused significant damage to the studio section of the structure, prompting swift emergency responses from multiple agencies across the state.
The fire, which began at approximately 5:30 p.m., quickly engulfed part of the U-shaped, one-story building. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) was among the first to alert the public, urging commuters to avoid the area while emergency teams battled the blaze.
In their advisory, LASTMA stated: “Radio Nigeria is on fire while firefighters are already on the ground to put out the fire. Meanwhile, all the roads have been blocked for motorists to go through alternative routes.”
Emergency Response Prevents Wider Damage
Firefighters from Dolphin, Ebute Elefun, and Oba Oniru Fire Stations led the response, supported by the Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, and other emergency teams. Their coordinated efforts successfully contained the fire, preventing its spread beyond the studio section.
Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, provided reassurance in a late-night statement.
“Although the fire was well alight when we arrived, collaborative efforts with our partners have contained it. No casualties have been reported, and damping down of the fire embers is currently ongoing,” she said.
Road Closures and Traffic Updates
The incident caused significant traffic disruptions as authorities blocked major routes to ensure unhindered access for emergency responders. LASTMA later confirmed the reopening of Obalende inward Passport Office, allowing motorists to resume normal movement.
