Osun Settles N12bn Pension Debt Under Adeleke’s Leadership

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has announced the settlement of N12 billion in pension arrears within just two years of his administration. This achievement was highlighted during his state broadcast to mark the second anniversary of his tenure.

Adeleke, who has been at the helm of Osun’s government since November 2022, expressed pride in his administration’s strides toward addressing critical financial obligations and improving infrastructure and public services. He revealed that the N12 billion paid out in pension debts under his leadership surpassed the N11 billion cleared by the previous administration in a span of 12 years.

“In line with norms of accountability and responsibility to the electorate, I am obligated to render my stewardship midway into the life of our administration,” Adeleke said in his address, emphasizing the progress made in tackling pension arrears as a key achievement.

Beyond financial commitments, Adeleke also spotlighted his administration’s focus on health and infrastructure. He mentioned the upgrading of 200 out of nearly 400 primary health care centres, all equipped with solar power, boreholes, and necessary medical materials. The government also conducted two major medical outreach programs, benefiting over 100,000 citizens, with a third edition on the horizon. Additionally, 29,000 pensioners were enrolled in the state’s health insurance scheme, ensuring healthcare access for retirees.

On water supply, the governor revealed the completion of 332 boreholes across the state’s 332 political wards, with another batch of 332 ongoing. This initiative is part of broader efforts to address basic infrastructure challenges in rural and urban areas alike.

Adeleke’s administration has also prioritised education and agriculture. He outlined plans to revive farm settlements, expand cocoa and cashew farming, and promote mechanised farming with the purchase of 31 tractors. The Governor further highlighted the establishment of the University of Ilesa, which has received start-up grants and accredited courses. The rehabilitation of roads at the university is also underway.

In the educational sector, Adeleke reported the completion of four long-abandoned projects at Osun State University and the launch of a new anatomy laboratory. Furthermore, 99 secondary schools were rehabilitated, with ongoing upgrades to six technical colleges. The administration is also preparing to hire new teachers to improve the quality of education in the state.

“We remain committed to completing all ongoing projects and continue to address the infrastructural and social needs of our people,” Adeleke reassured residents, reiterating his focus on the state’s long-term development goals.
