Cross River Unveils Reward Scheme to Boost Local Economy
The Cross River State Government has launched a patronage cash reward programme aimed at stimulating economic activity and enhancing citizen satisfaction. Governor Bassey Otu approved the initiative, which was unveiled on Monday at a stakeholders’ engagement seminar held at the Calabar International Convention Centre.
Speaking at the event, the Director General of the state Lottery and Gaming Agency, Michael Eja, lauded the governor for his foresight in greenlighting the project. Eja described the programme as a “creative and laudable initiative” to encourage patronage for businesses while providing customers with tangible benefits.
“Whenever customers patronise any business in Cross River State offering the ‘Paradise Token,’ they will receive a cashback reward and stand a chance to win between ₦5,000 and ₦100 million in weekly draws,” he explained. “This initiative will undoubtedly increase the happiness index of the people of the state.”
Eja also pledged transparency and accountability in the administration of the weekly draws, promising that winners would receive their rewards promptly, thanks to the involvement of technical partners.
Wealth Redistribution and Tax Incentives
The Chairman of Cross River State Internal Revenue Service, Edwin Okon, praised the programme, highlighting its potential to redistribute wealth and spur economic growth.
“This innovation aligns with our goals of enhancing the overall well-being of our citizens through wealth redistribution, job creation, and stimulating economic activities in the state,” Okon said.
He added that businesses participating in the programme by offering tokens to customers would receive tax incentives and waivers during the annual tax filing process, further incentivising their involvement.
Commitment to Seamless Integration
Technology partners at the seminar reaffirmed their readiness to support the programme, ensuring smooth integration with all relevant government agencies. Their involvement aims to ensure the project runs efficiently and achieves its objectives.
The Head of Business Development at Unical Microfinance Bank, George Ekoro, expressed optimism about the initiative, noting that implementation could commence imminently.
“This programme has the potential to transform the economic landscape of Cross River State,” Ekoro said.
