Unity in Diversity: Eze Oriade’s Cultural Festival Advocates Peace
Lagos witnessed a breathtaking cultural extravaganza on Saturday, November 16, 2024, as the Igbo Colloquium 2024 and First Ofala Celebration & Cultural Festival of Ndieze Ndigbo Oriade LCDA took centre stage at First Bank Field, Satellite Town. The event, themed “Living Harmoniously With Our Host Community for Economic Development,” showcased Nigeria’s rich cultural tapestry, with the Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, and Idoma ethnic groups uniting in a remarkable display of harmony and brotherhood.
The festival, described by attendees as “a rare convergence of diverse cultural heritages under one roof,” was marked by vibrant traditional performances, culinary delights, and an atmosphere of mutual respect and celebration. Guests were treated to the rhythmic beats of Igbo masquerades, Hausa cultural dances, and Yoruba drumming, symbolizing the unity of Nigeria’s ethnic nationalities.
A Roll Call of Dignitaries
The event attracted a host of dignitaries, including Hon. Ramotalai Olarewaju Akinlola, represented by SLG Razaki Olojode; Igwe Chibuike Eze Aganama III of Awkuzu; Alhaji Suleiman, Emir of the Hausa Community in Oriade LCDA; and other royal fathers, cultural leaders, and community figures from across Nigeria.
Eze Chimereze Emmanuel Chukwuakalikamadu, the chief host and Eze Ndigbo of Oriade LCDA, led the celebration alongside his royal counterpart, Eze Chinedu Modozie. Their majestic entrance, adorned in royal white regalia and complemented by traditional Igbo music, captivated the crowd.
Celebrating Peace and Unity
In his keynote speech, Eze Emmanuel Chukwuakalikamadu emphasized the festival’s focus on fostering unity and reconciliation. He noted:
“This event gives us the opportunity to review our essence and improve on our common bonds, aspirations, and mutual relationships with our host brothers. Let us bury grudges and forge ahead in love and understanding.”
He also called for forgiveness and empathy among ethnic groups, stressing the importance of living harmoniously for Nigeria’s economic development.
Cultural Feast and Takeaways
The festival also featured traditional prayers led by Igwe Awkuzu, sumptuous meals from various ethnic cuisines, and symbolic gifts like yams and live chickens, reflecting the event’s communal spirit. Tight security ensured a safe and festive atmosphere for the diverse attendees.

The celebration continued into the night with scintillating performances from live bands and DJs, while guests who traveled from afar were accommodated at the nearby Gossard Hotel.
