Golden Tulip Hotel Seeks Band B Power Reclassification
The management of Airport Golden Tulip Hotel, located on Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road in Lagos, has urged Ikeja Electric to reclassify its power band from Band A to Band B, citing inconsistent supply. In a formal complaint addressed to the Chief Commercial Officer of Ikeja Electric, the hotel management claimed that although they are billed under Band A, which promises a minimum of 20 hours of power daily, they only receive an average of 12 hours of consistent electricity.
The hotel has faced significant operational challenges due to frequent outages and high voltage fluctuations, leading to increased diesel costs and impacting overall business sustainability. “Despite our categorization and billing under Band A, our supply has been erratic, averaging only 12 hours per day,” stated the management. “This inconsistency has severely impacted our operations, and we are now running our business at a loss.”
According to Golden Tulip’s management, Ikeja Electric’s failure to provide Band A service levels is “fraudulent,” and they have demanded a reclassification to Band B, which they argue more accurately reflects the quality of service they are receiving. Additionally, the hotel has requested a refund for excess charges applied under the Band A tariff, arguing that these charges are unwarranted given the supply issues.
The hotel also expressed frustration with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), noting that when they lodged a complaint, they were told to return after 30 days, which they suspect signals a lack of regulatory accountability.
