Police Arrest Prophetess Over Pregnant Woman’s Death

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested Prophetess Folashade Kikiowo Adekola, an attendant at a mission in Akure, over the tragic death of a pregnant woman, Jumoke Adesuwa, who bled to death due to complications during childbirth.

The 28-year-old mother had left her home for spiritual cleansing at the Christ Engracing Deliverance Ministry in Akure, without informing her husband. A source revealed that Jumoke’s husband, Ayodele Adesuwa, had given her money to register for care at a government hospital, but she opted instead to visit the church, where she believed she could receive spiritual assistance for a safe delivery.

According to reports, Prophetess Adekola, who is the Pastor-in-Charge of the church, attempted to deliver the baby. However, the delivery encountered severe complications, leading to the baby’s immediate death and the mother suffering excessive bleeding. Jumoke was rushed to a hospital, but despite all efforts, she passed away a few hours later.

A family member described how the husband, returning from the farm after five days, was unaware of his wife’s whereabouts until neighbours informed him that she had been at the church for several days. “Someone from the church called in the evening to inform the husband that his wife had delivered a baby. The deceased’s husband called me, and we rushed to the said church called ‘Muzuzo’ at Oke-Aro,” the family member said. “When we got there, we were told that the baby died in the process, but the mother was alive. On sighting the deceased, we saw her in her pool of blood, bleeding profusely.”

The family was reportedly turned away by three hospitals before one eventually admitted her, but she died during attempts to revive her. Upon returning to the church to collect the baby’s remains, the family found the infant’s body in a room that appeared unfit for childbirth. The condition of the room raised suspicions, prompting the family to file a report at the Oke-Aro Police Station in Akure.

The police arrested Prophetess Adekola following the complaint, and the remains of the deceased have been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, stated, “The woman and her baby died during delivery. The prophetess has been arrested and taken to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID).
