FUOYE VC’s Lawsuit Against Ex-ASUU Chairman Adjourned
The Ekiti State High Court, Ado-Ekiti, has adjourned the case between Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), and the institution’s former ASUU Chairman, Dr. Akinyemi Gabriel Omonijo, to January 20, 2025, for trial. The case, with suit number HAD/143/2023, centres on allegations of salary fraud, with Fasina accusing Omonijo of collecting double salaries from two different universities simultaneously.
In the lawsuit, Fasina is demanding N500 million in damages for alleged libel, while Omonijo has filed a counterclaim seeking N250 million in compensation from the FUOYE VC. The case was heard on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, before Honourable Justice Adeniyi O. Familoni of Court 8.
During the court proceedings, Mr. Tiamiyu Adegboyega, representing the Claimant (Fasina), moved a motion to regularise the Claimant’s reply to the Defendant’s statement of defence and the defence to the counterclaim. The motion was unopposed by the Defendant’s Counsel, Hon. ‘Bayo Idowu, who was supported by Mr. S. C. Odofin.
Furthermore, the Defendant’s Counsel withdrew an application requesting the court to hear their counterclaim if the Claimant did not pursue the case. The Claimant’s Counsel also did not object to this motion.
Justice Familoni ruled in favour of all motions, and the court set the trial date for January 20, 2025, based on the agreement between both parties. The stage is now set for a full trial to resolve the allegations. Customs Area 11 Command Onne Surpasses Revenue Target
