Customs Area 11 Command Onne Surpasses Revenue Target
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Area 11 Command Onne, Rivers State, has exceeded its revenue target for 2024, reaching 89 percent of its annual N618 billion goal by November 11, 2024, with revenue standing at over N550 billion. Additionally, the Command has made significant strides in its anti-smuggling efforts, seizing 21 containers of illicit drugs and donkey skins valued at N46 billion. This brings the total number of seizures for the year to 63 containers, with a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of over N103 billion.
Comptroller Mohammed Babandede, the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Command, made the announcement during a press briefing on Monday at Onne Port. He reflected on the progress made, saying: “You will recall exactly two months and seven days ago, precisely 4th of September 2024, the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi mfr, was in Onne Port where he showcased a series of significant seizures made by the diligent officers of the Area 2 Command. Twelve containers were displayed of illicit goods intercepted through a combination of intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration, and meticulous physical examination.”
Babandede highlighted the success of the Command’s ongoing anti-smuggling operations, revealing that the security concerns arising from the numerous seizures led to the declaration of a three-month state of emergency. This emergency measure granted the Command the authority to scrutinize all suspected containers, regardless of ownership.
