Tincan Island Customs Hits Record N1.04 Trillion Revenue
The Tincan Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded an unprecedented N1.046 trillion in revenue from January to early November 2024. This achievement marks the first time the command has surpassed the trillion-naira milestone since its inception over 40 years ago.
Comptroller Dera Nnadi, head of the Tincan Island Command, made this announcement on Thursday in Lagos, expressing gratitude to Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi and the Customs leadership for their support.
“The command, as of November 7, 2024, generated one trillion, forty-six billion, and four ninety-six million naira between January 1 and November 7, 2024, into the Federated Account through the revenue generated by the command,” Nnadi stated.
Additionally, the command intercepted 16 containers of illicit drugs, valued at N37 billion, seized in coordination with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). The containers held unregistered pharmaceutical products including codeine syrup, tramadol, cannabis, Tapentadol, and Carisoprodol from countries such as India, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
“We are unveiling 16 containers of illicit substances,” said Nnadi. “These were intercepted between May and October and include unregistered pharmaceutical products like Benzhexol Tablets and Cannabis Indica.”
Earlier, the command had transferred 684 packets of cannabis, valued at N682 million, to NDLEA as part of its interagency collaboration efforts. Nnadi reiterated that compliant traders would benefit from streamlined processing, particularly in the holiday season.
Michel Ofoyeju, NDLEA’s Narcotics Commander at Tincan Island, commended the customs collaboration, which he attributed to his recent appointment. He affirmed NDLEA’s zero-tolerance policy on drug smuggling, revealing that over 50 drug barons were in custody, with 37 recent convictions tied to 330,835 kg of illicit drugs.
NAFDAC Assistant Director Dangiri Ukashat further stated that the agency was progressing towards Level Four regulatory status to support local pharmaceutical manufacturing and combat drug smuggling. NCC Launches Initiatives to Enhance Data User Experience
