103 Communities Submerged in Rivers State Flooding
Severe flooding, caused by heavy rainfall and the overflow of the Orashi River, has submerged 103 communities in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State. The devastating floods have left many homes and farms nearly completely underwater.
A Thursday visit to Akinima, the local government headquarters, revealed widespread destruction. Communities such as Mbiama, Akinima, Engenni, and Enedua were among the worst affected, with floodwaters engulfing large areas.
Esedi Joe, the Chief Press Secretary of Ahoada West LGA, confirmed the extent of the disaster, stating that the local government is overwhelmed by the scale of the damage. The council is urgently seeking assistance from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and international aid organizations to provide relief to those affected by the floods.
