Housewife Allegedly Forced Teenager to Sleep with Husband
An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has heard disturbing testimony from Investigating Police Officer, Insp. Elizabeth Osikolu, regarding allegations that a housewife, Omolara Alashe, coerced a 19-year-old woman into sleeping with her husband, Ramoni Lateef, in an attempt to bear him a child.
The defendants, Alashe and her husband, Lateef, face three charges: conspiracy, rape, and sexual assault. They both pleaded not guilty to the allegations. The alleged incident occurred in 2022, while the young woman was living with the couple after the death of her mother.
According to Osikolu, Alashe and her husband had previously accommodated the teenager. However, the victim reported suffering frequent abuse, including physical punishment, while living with the couple. On one occasion, the court heard, Alashe allegedly woke the young woman in the night, stripped her, and compelled her to engage in sexual relations with her husband.
Insp. Osikolu testified that the couple had previously lost a child in October 2022. “The first defendant has not been able to conceive again after the death of the child,” Osikolu explained. “So they decided to use the survivor to bear children for him to prevent the husband from marrying another woman.”
The court was also informed that Alashe had allegedly beaten the victim, stripped her, and inserted her fingers in her private parts, later confiscating the girl’s ATM card, MTN line, and salary to deny her financial independence.
During cross-examination, Osikolu maintained that the victim was telling the truth, noting that the defendant had admitted certain actions in her statement. “If the 19-year-old had consented to the sexual assault, she would not have reported it to the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) or submitted herself for a medical examination at Mirabel Centre,” she added.
