IGP Hosts Strategic Conference with Senior Officers, Emphasises Professionalism and Camaraderie
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD., NPM., convened a crucial strategic conference on Tuesday, 15th October 2024, bringing together Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs) from all formations, zonal, and state commands. The event, held at the Goodluck Ebele International Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, sought to review recent accomplishments and set the course for future initiatives aimed at fortifying law and order across the country.
The IGP opened the session by applauding the commendable achievements of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in recent months, with a particular focus on operations that dismantled organised crime syndicates, improved emergency response times, and strengthened community engagement. “Our officers have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the safety of Nigerian citizens, achieving notable successes in combating kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes,” Egbetokun stated.
The strategic discussions that followed centred on enhancing the operational capabilities of the Force to meet evolving security challenges. The IGP called for a renewed focus on public safety, stressing the need for operational excellence in service delivery. “The Nigerian public expects and deserves the highest level of professionalism from its police force. We must continue to prioritise the safety of all citizens and uphold the values of fairness, integrity, and transparency in our operations,” he added.
A key highlight of the conference was the upcoming gubernatorial election in Ondo State, slated for 16th November 2024. The IGP assured that the NPF would maintain impartiality and professionalism throughout the election process. “Our officers will undergo rigorous training to ensure they are well-prepared to manage conflict resolution and maintain public order during the elections. Democracy must be protected at all costs,” Egbetokun remarked.
Additionally, the IGP announced a senior police officers’ conference and retreat scheduled for 25th to 28th November 2024 in Abeokuta, Ogun State. This event will offer a platform for high-level discussions on force management, operational strategy, policy formulation, and leadership development within the police force.
In his closing remarks, the IGP underscored the importance of camaraderie, teamwork, and a unified sense of purpose within the Force. He stressed the value of partnerships with governmental and non-governmental agencies, as well as community stakeholders, in addressing the multifaceted security challenges facing Nigeria. “A united front is critical to tackling the complex security issues our nation confronts. Together, we can build a safer, more secure Nigeria,” he concluded.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and effective communication with the public, pledging to continue working diligently to safeguard citizens and uphold law and order nationwide.
