40 Million Customers Stranded Over Failed Opay Business Transactions
Popular financial technology company, Opay, has once again left its over 40 million customers stranded due to an unexplained application glitch. This marks the second time in a month that customers have faced significant issues, with many reporting that their funds have disappeared without explanation.
On Monday, users attempting to perform transactions were met with repeated failures, leaving them unable to make or receive payments. Despite Opay’s reputation for providing quick and easy payment services, customers were forced to rely on alternative fintech platforms such as Moniepoint and Palmpay to complete their transactions.
One frustrated customer shared their experience, stating, “I went to Bokku Mart to purchase some goods, and because I don’t have an ATM, I always use Opay because it’s been easy. But I was embarrassed yesterday when the payment failed. I didn’t even see my transaction history, but my account was debited. It was like my money disappeared.”
Another customer recounted how his attempts to buy food for his baby were hindered by Opay’s system malfunction. “My baby’s food had finished, so I stopped by a supermarket after work. I picked up what I needed, but my transactions were pending for several hours. I thought it was a network issue, so I switched data lines, but nothing worked. I had to leave and go home to get my ATM card so my baby wouldn’t starve.”
This incident comes just a month after a similar issue left customers complaining about disappearing funds. Many users took to social media to voice their frustrations. One user tweeted, “@OPay_NG, please explain why money added to my account suddenly disappeared.” Another user said, “I’m getting tired of Opay. I made a transaction, and there was a network error. My money was debited, and there’s no receipt. I might switch to Palmpay.”
A third user wrote, “This is absolutely unacceptable! I transferred ₦10,000 to my Opay account, and the amount vanished without a trace. There’s no receipt or transaction history available for this transfer. I demand a proper and immediate explanation.”
Despite the growing outcry, Opay has yet to issue a statement addressing the latest application glitch or provide any explanation for the ongoing issues. Customers are calling for the fintech company to take immediate action and resolve these recurring problems.
