Kano State Government Distributes Resettlement Letters to Farmers for New City Development

By Innocent Eneta,

In a move to fulfill its promise and promote urban expansion, the Kano State Government has launched the distribution of resettlement allocation letters to farmers affected by the development of two new cities in the state. This initiative is a key part of the government’s broader strategy to decongest Kano metropolis and create new urban centers.

Speaking at the launch, the Governor highlighted the significance of the initiative. “This allocation covers 2,483 plots from Yargaya and Rijiyar Gwangwan in Dawakin-Kudu, and 1,671 plots for Unguwar Rimi and Lambu in Tofa Local Government Area,” he said. These plots are being allocated as compensation to farmers whose lands were acquired for the development of the new cities.

The new city projects aim to reduce congestion in Kano metropolis by establishing environmentally-friendly urban centers equipped with essential amenities. “These new cities have the potential to stimulate socio-economic growth and improve the quality of life in the affected areas,” the Governor emphasized.

The initiative is also supported by the Federal Government, which plans to construct an international-standard conference center and a federal housing scheme in the area. The housing scheme will begin with the construction of 500 houses as part of a larger plan to build 1,500 houses.

In addition to urban development, the Kano State Government is committed to enhancing security within the state. The Governor announced plans to remodel, rebuild, and equip security towers at the entrances of Kano metropolis. “These efforts will enhance security and safeguard the lives and property of residents,” he added.

This comprehensive approach to urban development, resettlement, and security is expected to not only relieve pressure on Kano’s city center but also create new opportunities for growth and development in the region. The government’s commitment to balancing urban expansion with the welfare of displaced farmers underscores its dedication to sustainable development and social equity.
