Dr. Abel Damina Clarifies His Stance on Fellow Ministers, Emphasizes Gospel Correction

Dr. Abel Damina, a well-known Nigerian pastor and the founder of Power City International Church in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has recently addressed accusations of being overly critical of other Christian ministers. Speaking during an interview on Jordan 105.5 FM, Lagos, Dr. Damina made it clear that his intent is not to attack or disparage fellow ministers but to correct what he perceives as doctrinal errors within the teachings of the Gospel.
During the interview with Charles Ideho, anchor of Feedback, a Sunday evening magazine show on Jordan FM, Dr. Damina emphasized the importance of maintaining doctrinal purity in Christian teachings. “My intention is not to criticize or condemn anyone personally. If there’s any of my messages in which I personally attacked any minister of the gospel, let them show me,” Dr. Damina stated.
He further explained that many of the videos circulating online, which appear to show him criticizing other ministers, have been manipulated by content creators and bloggers aiming to attract more viewers and readers. “I am simply committed to ensuring that the truth of the Gospel is accurately presented and understood,” he insisted.
Dr. Damina has become a prominent figure in Nigeria’s Christian community, particularly for his outspoken views against what he terms the “transactional gospel” and the emphasis on tithing. He argues that these practices are misinterpretations of the Christian faith and have led many believers astray. Citing the example of Jesus Christ and His apostles, he questioned the necessity of tithing in the modern Christian faith.
“If Jesus Christ, apostles Peter, and Paul did not pay tithes, why should a Christian pay tithes, since Jesus is the one Christians look up to and emulate?” Dr. Damina quizzed.
These remarks have sparked significant debate within the Nigerian Christian community. While some applaud Dr. Damina for his boldness and dedication to doctrinal truth, others view his approach as potentially divisive. In his recent address, however, Dr. Damina stressed the importance of correcting doctrinal errors with love and humility.
“We must remember that our ultimate goal is to lead people to Christ and to help them grow in their understanding of God’s word,” he added. “If we see something that is not in line with the Scriptures, it is our responsibility to correct it with love and humility.”
Dr. Damina’s comments come at a time when discussions about the interpretation of Christian doctrines are becoming more prominent. His focus remains on promoting a clear and accurate understanding of the Gospel, urging both ministers and believers to prioritize the truth of the Scriptures above all else.
