Fire Ravages LG Warehouse in Lagos, Destroys Property Worth Millions
A devastating fire broke out at an LG office located in Abule Osun, Trade Fair, Lagos, in the early hours of Sunday, causing extensive damage to property reportedly valued at millions of naira. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident, stating that their swift response helped prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures.
Nosa Okunbor, LASEMA’s Head of Public Affairs, explained that the agency received distress calls about the fire at around 00:15 hours. “The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, received distress calls through the 767/112 Toll-Free Emergency lines at 0015hrs, and activated the Lagos State Emergency Response Plans,” Okunbor stated.
When the Dolphin Response Team arrived on the scene at 00:40 hours, they found a raging fire consuming the warehouse. “Upon arrival… a raging fire was discovered at the LG office located at the aforementioned address,” Okunbor said. The fire quickly spread throughout the entire warehouse, destroying a significant amount of equipment, small forklifts, and household goods such as TVs, refrigerators, and air conditioners. The total value of the damaged property is estimated to be in the hundreds of millions of naira.
LASEMA promptly activated the Lagos Response Unit (LRU) Fire Unit to support the operation, dispatching several fire appliance trucks to intervene. Despite the severe damage to the major warehouse, Okunbor noted that the combined efforts of LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire & Rescue Service, the Federal Fire Service, and other first responders successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to adjacent structures, including other warehouses, a gas station, diesel tankers, expatriate quarters, and other nearby buildings.
“The joint response team is still actively engaged in combating the fire,” Okunbor added, emphasizing that while the immediate cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation, there have been no reported fatalities or injuries from the incident.
