Tincan Customs Boss, Comptroller Dera Nnadi, Declares 2024 as ‘Year of Stakeholders’ in Recognition of Revenue Success
Tincan Customs Boss, Comptroller Dera Nnadi, has designated 2024 as the “Year of Stakeholders” in acknowledgment of their pivotal role in achieving the Tincan Island Port Command’s revenue target for 2023. Despite economic challenges, the command exceeded expectations, collecting ₦716,479,576,074.74, translating to 89.43% of the set target.
At a press briefing in Lagos, Nnadi expressed gratitude, stating, “We pledge to devote our time, resources, human capacity to serve them and deliver quality service to them.” Emphasizing compliance, he added, “We will encourage those willing to change but deal decisively with non-compliant entities.”
Highlighting ongoing efforts since 2006, Nnadi underscored the Customs Consultative Council’s role and electronic engagement with key stakeholders. Regarding benefits for stakeholders, he mentioned extended work hours, a reward system for compliant agents, and a commitment to 24/7 operations.
Nnadi addressed accountability within the system, stating, “For every declaration made by a stakeholder but released by an officer… intercepted, that officer will have to answer for it at Enforcement.” The move aims to strike a balance and foster collaboration between the customs command and its stakeholders.
