Take It Back Movement Urges Swift Action in #JusticeForMohbad Case

In a press conference held today, Omolola Pedro, Head of the Gender Department of Take It Back Movement called on the Nigeria Police to expedite the investigation into the death of Nigerian musician Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, widely known as Mohbad. The movement emphasized the need for transparency and timely dissemination of findings to the public.

The case gained public attention following Mohbad’s death under unclear circumstances, leading to widespread protests and the birth of the #JusticeForMohbad campaign. Despite initial assurances from the police and the completion of an autopsy, there has been a conspicuous lack of updates on the investigation, leaving the public in the dark.

The late musician’s family, particularly his wife Wumi and their child Liam, have faced relentless attacks, both online and offline. The Take It Back Movement strongly condemned these acts, including cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and physical harassment, mirroring the plight Mohbad himself experienced during his lifetime.

Comrade Ayoyinka Oni, Former Take It Back Movement Coordinator in Lagos, voiced concern over the intensifying attacks on Mohbad’s wife in cyberspace. He emphasized the danger posed to her and her son, decrying the lack of updates from both the police and Mohbad’s legal representation. Oni urged the authorities to address the threats against the family and ensure their safety.

During the press conference, Oni highlighted the initial positive steps taken by the police in response to the public outcry, expressing appreciation for their commitment to a thorough and transparent investigation. However, he stressed the need for the police to communicate their findings promptly, including information on individuals interrogated and the outcome of the autopsy.

Oni asserted that the public has the right to know the details of the investigation to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. He called for a comprehensive inquiry into those involved in cyberbullying, emphasizing the importance of holding them accountable for their actions.

The Take It Back Movement concluded by reiterating its demand for justice for Mohbad and urged the authorities to uphold the rule of law, protect the rights of the deceased’s family, and bring perpetrators to justice. As the investigation unfolds, the public anxiously awaits a resolution to the #JusticeForMohbad campaign, seeking clarity on the circumstances surrounding the musician’s tragic demise.
