Nigerian Communications Commission Renews Commitment to Federal Government’s Anti-Corruption Drive

Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has renewed its dedication to collaborating with government bodies in backing the nation’s anti-corruption agenda. Acknowledged as an ethically-responsible public institution by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the NCC has maintained its commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s anti-corruption efforts.

Mr. Usman Malah, representing NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) Prof. Umar Danbatta, expressed this commitment while hosting a delegation from the Public Complaints Commission (PCC). The visit aimed to commend NCC’s role in promoting digital culture within the country.

In 2020, NCC achieved a notable score of 81.15 percent, placing it among the top 10 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) out of 352 evaluated on the Ethics Compliance and Integrity Scorecard (ECIS) by the ICPC. This achievement positioned NCC as the most ethically compliant government regulatory agency within the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.

Malah emphasized that NCC’s alignment with anti-corruption endeavors was only natural. He highlighted NCC’s willingness to collaborate with PCC to bolster the Federal Government’s anti-corruption campaigns, focusing on combatting corruption and negative behaviors among Nigerian youth.

NCC acknowledged the significance of PCC’s anti-corruption education initiatives aimed at the general public, youths, and students. These groups, Malah noted, are essential stakeholders in sustaining the anti-corruption movement and supporting initiatives within the telecom sector that contribute to the national economy.

Malah affirmed NCC’s strong resonance with PCC’s core objective of rectifying administrative injustices in Nigeria. This alignment reflects the shared aim of promoting social justice in an increasingly intricate world characterized by technological advancements and diverse practices.

PCC Secretary Philip Enyali, representing Chief Commissioner Abimbola Ayo-Yusuf, commended Danbatta for upholding zero tolerance for corruption and praised NCC’s contributions to the telecommunications sector’s growth and economic development. Enyali’s visit aimed to inform NCC about the scheduled Anti-Corruption Marathon and the National Youth and Students Summit, both designed to curb anti-corruption tendencies among Nigerian youth and discourage involvement in corrupt activities.
