Danbatta Recognized as EFCC Ambassador for Anti-Corruption Efforts

Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has been honored with an ambassadorial badge by the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa. This recognition comes as a result of Danbatta’s significant contributions to fostering an anti-corruption culture within the communications sector.
During a recent visit to the EFCC office in Abuja, Bawa presented the ambassadorial badge to Danbatta, aiming to strengthen collaboration between the two agencies. Under Danbatta’s leadership, the NCC has demonstrated a commitment to transparency and openness. The NCC’s Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit has been bolstered in accordance with the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Act.
In 2020, the ICPC ranked the NCC as the most ethically compliant agency within the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy (MoCDE). Among the regulatory agencies assessed in the Ethics Compliance and Integrity Scorecards (ECIS), the NCC led 24 others in upholding ethical standards.
The NCC’s dedication to excellence has not gone unnoticed. In 2017, the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) bestowed the NCC with Platinum recognition for its exemplary institutional work processes and robust business organizational structure. The NCC’s commitment to accountability and standardized operating procedures across its 19 departments played a crucial role in earning this accolade.
The NCC’s Computer Security Incident Response Team (NCC-CSIRT) has been instrumental in implementing preventive measures to combat cyber-related crimes in the country. This proactive approach aligns with the NCC’s broader efforts to ensure integrity and security within the telecommunications industry.
Danbatta’s ambassadorial recognition by the EFCC underscores his dedication to upholding ethical standards and combating corruption within the communications sector, making him a valuable asset in the ongoing fight against financial crimes.
