Sterling Bank Bullion Van Attacked By Robbers Police Killed

Daily Global Newspaper gathered that the incident, which took place on the 26th of July 2022, at about 1:30 PM, left policemen bloodied, dead and rifles missing.
According to a police source: “The robbers were operating along Enugu-Port Harcourt Highway by Ntigha Junction. The policemen who were under attack sent a distress call to Control Room and tactical teams were immediately dispatched to the scene. At the scene, one Inspector Leo Francis of CTU Base 4, Aba, told us what happened.”
The source further stated: “According to him, he and five others were escorting a bullion van belonging to Sterling Bank, Ojukwu Street, Aba to Umuahia. As they were approaching Ntigha Junction, they ran into a gang of robbers who had barricaded the highway and were firing. They asked the driver of the escort vehicle to stop to no avail. As they entered the barricade, an exchange of gunfire ensued. The bullion van veered into the bush and the cash officer one Igwe Ogbonnaya was shot dead on the spot. Also, AP No. 311667 Inspector Sani Sunday, AP No. 311529 Inspector John Jonathan of 28PMF, and sergeant Utobong Uyota of CTU Base 4 Aba sustained injuries on the back and thighs. They were rushed to FMC Umuahia for medical attention. One of the robbers was shot dead and one AK47 rifle, with three magazines strapped together, belonging to the dead robber was recovered. Also, one AK-47 rifle belonging to John Jonathan of 28 PMF is still being searched for in the bush where he ran to.”
Daily Global Newspaper was informed that investigation has been launched to track down the remaining members of the gang.
