Re: Exclusive! Dapo Abiodun Drops Governorship Ambition… Says I have Seen it All
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has thrown a shock waves into the political scene on Monday when he declared to close aides and confidants that he may no longer be considering a return ticket on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Sources at the informal meeting disclosed that the Governor was particularly worried about the extent to which his opponents in the contest might go with facts and documents in their possession about his alleged fraud cases with the US authority and several other evidences of graft being gathered against him.
It will be recalled that during a recent interview granted to the BBC Yoruba, one of the Governor’s aides, Modele Sarafa-Yusuf who has also declared interest in the Ogun State top job said Prince Dapo Abiodun never told her he will be seeking reelection. According to her, she was close enough to the Governor to know about his thought process, she said if Dapo Abiodun will be contesting again she is in a very good position to know because of their relationships.
Feelers from the secret meetings especially from some of the aides who have political ambitions was one of disappointment. A particular aide was said to have complained bitterly that the Governor can afford to drop his own ambition because he has made sufficient money enough to pay off his debts to the banks and AMCON and he can go and start a new life with his oil business, but that the Governor had starved all of them and impoverished others. According to reports, Dapo Abiodun and his two cronies (referring to the SSG and Commissioner for Finance) practically sat on the Ogun State treasury.
“It is convenient for DA to opt out of the race at this time, we are most likely not going to miss him as it is good riddance to bad and kleptomaniac administration, but where does that leave the rest of us. The troika have stolen Ogun State blind using fronts. We don’t know the cost of doing roads or how much are contracts awarded. For the first time in the history of Ogun State, contracts are being awarded in dollars. Is that Nigeria’s official legal tender. I challenge DA and his cronies to come clean in the open to publish records of how much contracts are awarded and the phony consultancy jobs attached to each.” One of the aides complained
A visibly angry aide asked how much is Ogun State Government paying to fuel the private jet that the Governor flies around and what is the economic benefit to a not so rich state as Ogun.
Checks revealed that the decision to quit the 2023 race must have been informed by the plethora of documents amassed by Abiodun’s opposition some of which include his false claims on attending a university with no such record available, several under hand dealings.
Another of those who attended the meeting revealed that several Commisioners and top aides have resigned from the Ogun State cabinet but most were kept under close wraps to save the government from embarrassment.
For instance, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and the Special Adviser in the same ministry resigned in such embarrassing situation because they were allegedly “swindled” by the Governor and his cronies.
According to sources close to the government. The Commissioner and Special had used his funds and connections to secure over two billions Naira funding for his ministry “even when the Governor does not believe in the efforts” but no sooner than the money was approved than the Governor, his SSG and Commissioner for Finance took it over and shared among themselves. This was said to have angered the Commissioner and SA. Both of them were said to have tendered their letters of resignation same day.
