Clean Air Task Force, ExxonMobil, Fortum Oslo Varme join EU Zero Emissions Platform

The Zero Emissions Platform (ZEP), which supports the European Union’s commitment to reach climate neutrality by 2050, defined as net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050, said on February 15 the group has welcomed three new members to the Platform: Clean Air Task Force, ExxonMobil and Fortum Oslo Varme.

According to ZEP, Clean Air Task Force CCUS Policy Innovation Director Lee Beck, ExxonMobil Business Development Manager CCS Robin Clowes and Fortum Oslo Varme Director CCS Jannicke Gerner Bjerkas have joined the Advisory Council, which meets quarterly to advise the Platform on strategic goals, to make decisions, and also acts as a focal point for developing a policy interface between platform operations and policy-making bodies.

Working together with a broad, diverse membership base, ZEP aims to further support the development and deployment of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) technologies in Europe. European CO2 infrastructure is crucial for all CO2 emitters across Europe to connect to safe, geological storage and can enable a cost-efficient transition to reach a climate-neutral economy, whilst safeguarding industrial activity, maintaining jobs, and boosting economic growth.

ZEP Chairman Graeme Sweeney said that with a new EU target to reduce GHG emissions by 55% by 2030, there is an even greater role for CCS technologies to play in this decade to ensure reduced emissions from energy-intensive and difficult-to-decarbonise industries. As ZEP’s membership base grows, we see increased ambition and momentum across all industries and sectors in Europe to achieve these targets.”
