Europe’s leaders are set to convene for a double online summit in February 25-26, EU Council President Charles Michel announced on Wednesday.

“On 25 February at 3pm, EUCO President will chair an EU27 videoconference on COVID-19 coordination,” Michel’s spokesperson, Barend Leyts wrote in a Twitter post, adding that the meeting “will be followed by a second EU27 videoconference on 26 February at 9am on security and defence and on Southern Neighborhood.”

The EU heads of state and government had met on January 21 to discuss the coordination on the bloc’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as testing practices, vaccination programmes and the emergence of the new Coronavirus variants.

The EUCO announcement comes at a rather challenging moment for the bloc, which is facing severe delays in vaccine deliveries by manufacturers Pfizer and AstraZeneca.
