Home of Belgian PM vandalised with swastikas
The home of Belgium’s Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, located in the Flanders town of Brakel, was vandalised on Sunday night with several spray-painted swastikas.
An investigation into the case has been launched by the East Flanders public prosecutor’s office, a spokesperson told AFP.
The incident followed a demonstration in the town hall by members of the far-right Our Country (Ons Land) movement. While protesters tried to approach the house, they were prevented by the police, according to media reports.
A link between the demonstration and the Nazi symbols daubed on de Croo’s family house has not been established at this time.
According to local media reports, Tom Meulenbergs, a spokesperson for De Croo said that the PM “regrets the damage to his private home and especially the fact that people are trying to intimidate his children and family in this way.”
