Armenia’s president Armen Sargsyan has tested positive for the coronavirus during a visit to London, Armenian media reported on Tuesday.

Sargsyan traveled for leg surgery to the United Kingdom, where he experienced symptoms associated with COVID-19. According to the reports, he is now self-isolating and continues to work.

The UK is making efforts to tackle a sharp increase in COVID-19 infections as a new, more contagious strain spreads through the country, and prime minister Boris Johnson on Monday announced another nationwide lockdown.

Armenia’s prime minister Nikol Pashinian also tested positive for COVID-19 last year.

Armenia has so far reported more than 160,000 coronavirus infections and more than 2,800 deaths from the disease.
