Kazakhstan wants to gain access to new energy markets
NUR-SULTAN, Kazakhstan – Kazakhstan’s Energy Minister Nurlan Nogayev said highlighted the importance of the process of modernising the Energy Charter Treaty, including areas important for the country such as transit, investment protection and energy efficiency.
In his speech at the 31st meeting of the Ministerial Conference of the International Energy Charter (MEH), which was held online, Nogayev said on December 18 Kazakhstan is interested in updating the provisions of the Treaty concerning aspects of dispute resolution, as well as investment provisions.
“We express our deep interest in ensuring that the following fundamental principles are taken into account when discussing transit issues: obtaining unhindered access to new markets, as well as to the infrastructure of transit countries; creation of a unified legal framework for the transit of energy resources; reducing the risk and consequences of disputes; maintaining a balance of supply and demand in the energy market; maintaining a balance of economic interests,” Nogayev noted.
The Ministerial Session of the Energy Charter Conference traditionally serves as a platform for the participation of high-level representatives of the governments of the Charter member states, international organisations and energy company leaders in policy dialogue on the role of innovation and the development of sustainable energy technologies.
MEH is an international energy organisation promoting intergovernmental dialogue between countries exporting, consuming and transiting energy resources.
