Tokayev congratulates Kazakhs on Independence Day
NUR-SULTAN, Kazakhstan –President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has congratulated Kazakhs on December 16, which is the main national holiday – Independence Day.
“I congratulate all compatriots on Independence Day! Next year will mark the 30th anniversary of the glorious history of the country. We are strong in unity and solidarity. Our common goal is to work for the good of the Motherland, for the good of Independent Kazakhstan,” the head of state wrote on Twitter on December 16.
Twenty-nine years ago, on December 16, 1991, the Supreme Council adopted a law on the independence and state sovereignty of Kazakhstan.
In 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic, mass festivities and entertainment are prohibited. Independence Day will host online lectures, videoconferences, virtual books, and photo exhibitions.
Tokayev noted that the 29th year of Kazakhstan’s Independence turned out to be difficult, dramatic, and non-standard. The upcoming 2021 year will be marked by the 30th anniversary of Independence and a new package of reforms is being prepared.
